KEMET ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF POLYMER HERMETIC SEAL PORTFOLIO WITH FIRST-TO-MARKET PRODUCT EXTENSION

New B Case Size Offers Highest Voltage and Deliverable Energy With Lowest Leakage Current

KEMET Corporation (NYSE: KEM), a leading global supplier of electronic components, today announced product extensions for the T550 Polymer Hermetic Seal (PHS) Series of tantalum through-hole capacitors. T550 PHS Series offers the highest voltage and deliverable energy with the lowest leakage current of any other capacitor. This extension expands the B case size product offering to 24 part numbers with capacitance values up to 820 uF, voltage ranges from 6 to 60 volts and leakage current as low as 6.3 uA.

"PHS offers the highest total capacitance at low temperatures and high frequencies, rendering it the most economical high power solution available, surpassing even wet tantalum performance," said Dr. Philip Lessner, KEMET Senior Vice President, Chief Technology and Marketing Officer. "With these significant advantages over existing competing technologies, KEMET anticipates a growing demand for this high performance capacitor. Solid internal construction drastically improves shock and vibration capability, all within an approximately 25% lighter package than the equivalent wet tantalum capacitor."

"The T550 PHS Series has the highest rated voltage and energy, as well as the lowest DC leakage and ESR in the industry and the highest ripple current capability in its class," said Dr. Yuri Freeman, KEMET Technical Fellow. "Seven patents and applications went into the development and manufacturing of this polymer tantalum capacitor with space grade reliability."

With its benign failure mode, T550 PHS Series products are ideal for use in high voltage power management applications such as buck boost converters, filtering, hold-up capacitors, and other high ripple current applications. Typical markets include alternative energy, industrial/lighting, telecommunications, and defense and aerospace. The T550 PHS Series solution provides a lower total cost of ownership versus wet tantalum.
